This training course is designed to provide participants the required skills needed to successfully fulfill the duties of a Certified Phlebotomy Technician. These course students will be able to perform all the duties associated with the practice of venipuncture, capillary puncture, and special collection procedures. The student will have experience with quality control, infection control and safety procedures as well as laboratory computer systems. Students successfully completing this course may apply for a National Certification Exam with the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
“The course provides the psychomotor instruction in phlebotomy procedures and techniques for students with no prior experience in drawing blood for diagnostic testing. Documentation, various lab testing, quality control and safety rules regarding lab equipment and chemicals are also mastered. By the end of the course, students will know the history of phlebotomy, the importance, and the role of the phlebotomist. They will become familiar with all sections of the laboratory, and other hospital departments. They will also learn about ethical/legal issues in phlebotomy including the phlebotomist’s rights and the patients.”
